Project of Sound Visualization

The "Sound Display" solution, developed from an idea originating in the 2019 IBM Japan "DX Challenge," allows AI to visually recognize nearby sounds. Launched for iOS in November 2021 and Android in January 2022, it's offered free to support the participation of the hearing-impaired in society. The AI model operates within a smartphone app, enabling offline sound recognition and online sound registration based on 4-second recorded data. To ensure accuracy and prevent false recognition, the AI model is strengthened through data amplification and includes various noise types in its learning data. This innovation aids the hearing-impaired in navigating their surroundings.

Project of Sound Visualization

We developed the “Sound Display”, a solution whereby AI recognizes nearby sounds and reports them visually.  It was implemented based on an idea conceived by T.D.I. at the 2019 IBM Japan “DX Challenge 2019”  iOS service began at the end of November 2021, and the Android version launched at the end of January 2022  As part of our social contribution, the service is offered for free, to help deaf and hard of hearing people participate in society. We use an AI model that corresponds to the user’s environment • AI model operates on smartphone app • Sound recognition function uses smartphone AI model to operate offline • Sound registration function uses 4 seconds of recorded data to create a new AI model online, which can be downloaded to smartphone app Ensuring correct recognition and preventing false recognition • AI model strengthened by learning data amplification • Multiple noises included in learning data in advance, to exclude false recognition
